Hidden Spy Cameras-How to Find the Best/Why Quality Counts

It used to be that in the past surveillance equipment was only used by the government and private investigators. But now more and more people are finding a need for this specialized equipment.

Millions of people are using nanny cams to check on their babysitters, surveillance cameras to keep an eye on their homes and businesses and hidden cameras to catch theft, abuse and infidelity. No other method can give you the proof or evidence that a surveillance camera can.

There are thousands of websites that sell hidden cameras for business and/or home security. Each one of those has hundreds of offerings. Confusing? It sure can be confusing and intimidating-especially for those who are technologically challenged-like me.

There are several things you can do to find the spy camera that will fit your needs.

1. Do your homework. Determine which camera will do what you want. Not all hidden spy cams are created equally.

2. Look for help. If you have a question is there a way to get a fast answer? A lot of people in this business do it part time-no biggie-but you may not get an answer when you call.

3. Custom made. Are the cameras custom made or mass produced? Mass produced cameras may be cheaper but not better. In this arena of spy cams quality trumps price all the time. Mass produced cams are more then likely made overseas. Buy American when you can.

4. Technical support. Look for products that are easy to install yourself. If you have a problem, is there someone from a tech support team that can give you a call and walk you through everything?

5. Powerful transmitters. Most companies use unapproved 1.2 GHz transmitters that are cheaper for sure. The FCC has set the standard at 2.4 GHz which is much more powerful enabling a wireless signal to go three times farther than other transmitters.

6. Battery Packs. Hidden and wireless cameras have to get their power for m somewhere. A lot of companies use a five hour battery pack that has to be replaced. Look for an 8 hour 12 volt rechargeable battery pack.

7. Lenses. Most companies use the cheaper lenses to save money. A CCD (charged coupled device) will provide better resolution (better picture quality) and light sensitivity allowing for outdoor and low light use without IR illuminators.

When it comes to selecting a hidden camera you don’t want to skimp and save a few pennies and get a camera that doesn’t yield the results you are looking for.
